Olaf Ott was trained at the Dortmund department of the Westfalen-Lippe University of Music. In 1985 he joined the Duisburger Symphoniker (also the orchestra of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein) as principal trombonist, and from 1989 to 1994 he was principal trombonist in the RSO Berlin (today the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin). In 1994 the Berlin Philharmonic accepted him as a trombonist and he has been their principal trombonist since 1999. Olaf Ott is also a member of the brass ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic and has been playing in the Triton Trombone Quartet for almost two decades, which has won several international prizes.
