Shengnan Hu Drums
Shengnan Hu grew up in a musical family in Xuzhou/China. Their
She received her first piano lessons at the age of four. From the age of ten
she also took drum lessons,
From 1996-2002 she was a junior drummer at The Middle School
in cooperation with the "Central Conservatory of Music" in Beijing. In 2002 sat
Shengnan Hu completed her bachelor's degree with Prof. Gerald Fromme and Prof.
Ulrike Stadler continued at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and graduated
in 2006 with distinction. In the same year, Hu received the scholarship “The
highest award of Austria”. In 2011 she completed her concert exam as
Student at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler Berlin with Professor Li Biao, Rainer
Seegers and Franz Schindlbeck – also with distinction. From 2011 to 2013 was
she is a master student with Peter Sadlo at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. In 2009, Hu received this
NaFöG grant from the Berlin University of the Arts.
In 2007, Shengnan Hu won first prize in the Bertold Hummel Competition
Munich in the subject drums, 2nd prize at the international competition for
Percussion instruments (Bulgaria), as well as the award for the best timpani solo performance. in the

Shengnan Hu has been teaching as a visiting professor at Xinghai since the winter semester 2018/2019
Conservatory of Music China. Concert tours and guest lectureships have taken her dutch

Shengnan Hu has made guest appearances as a soloist with the Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin,
the Konzerthaus-Orchester Berlin, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the
Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the China National Orchestra, the China
Philhamonic, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra,
the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic, the Brandenburg State Orchestra
Frankfurt, the European-Chinese Festival Orchestra, the German Chamber Orchestra
Berlin, the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra. She also made guest appearances as a soloist
renowned festivals such as Kissinger Sommer, Young Euro Classic Festival Berlin,
Kassel Music Days, Beijing Music Festival, Beijing Modern Music Festival, Shanghai
Spring International Music Festival and works with important conductors such as Tan Dun,
Muhai Tang, Lan Shui, Long Yu, Gilbert Varga, Johannes Wildner together, numerous
Radio and television productions (ORF/Ö1/RBB/CCTV) and CD recordings
document their work.
