Li-Chun Su Piano

Li-Chun Su is a German-Taiwanese pianist.

At the age of three, she caught the attention of her parents when she played tunes she had picked up on her grandparents' piano without any prior musical education. Due to her talent, she received a state scholarship for gifted education in the field of music a few years later.

After completing her education in Taipei, she traveled to Europe to explore the origins of the music she loved so much. In Berlin, Li-Chun Su encountered an atmosphere shaped by open-minded, fearless musicians. That same year, she passed the entrance exam and moved her center of life to innovative Berlin.

Due to Berlin's central location in Europe, Li-Chun Su had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned personalities of European music. Among them were pianists Gabor Paska, Paul Badura-Skoda, Malcolm Bilson, László Simon, pianist Alicia de Larrocha, harpsichordist Mitzi Meyerson, singer Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and musicologist Prof. Dr. Helmut Fladt.

Building on these encounters, she began to question her own position in music and delved into the original sounds and historical instruments of the composers in order to explore the original character of the compositions and their associated limited interpretation possibilities. This approach led Ms. Su to consider the composers' works as a whole, instead of isolating them and tearing them out of their entirety.

This journey, beginning as an inner exploration, led her to the concert halls of Europe, where she performed cycle programs such as J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and Goldberg Variations, Chopin's 21 Nocturnes and 4 Ballades, Debussy's Images, and piano concertos on modern grand pianos as well as original historical keyboard instruments.
