Marc Doffey's wealth of experience is based on his membership in bands such as the Youth Jazz Orchestra NRW, the East-West-European Jazz Orchestra TWINS 2010, and the Federal Jazz Orchestra, as well as associated worldwide tours. His broad experience is supplemented by numerous collaborations, including with Ralf Hesse, Edward Maclean, and Ed Motta, through projects with Niels Klein, Christian Elsässer, and Jules Buckley, as well as through various personal engagements. The centerpiece here is the Marc Doffey Quintet. Founded in 2014, the band initially attracted great attention through nationwide concerts and tours. This was followed by the release of their debut album, Taking Direction, in 2016. The success of the quintet is evidenced not least by awards such as the Saar Jazz Prize 2015, the Young German Jazz Prize 2016, and the Young Munich Jazz Prize 2016. The band around Marc Doffey was also temporarily supported by the Berlin Senate Chancellery for Culture and Europe.
Currently, Marc Doffey can be heard regularly with the JazzKombinat Hamburg, the Frederik Villmow Quartet, the Ralf Hesse Big Band, the Johannes Metzger Quartet, the Gaststätte zum Heißen Hirten, and many other projects. The saxophonist combines talent, creativity, and brilliance with technique and musical maturity in his playing. Marc Doffey implements his distinctive style not only directly on his instrument, but also as a composer. In his early years, he created his first compositions for various personal bands. This was followed by a variety of arrangements for different ensembles. After his work Moony Aesthesia convinced the jury of the Federal Jazz Orchestra Composition Competition for the program Zukunftsmusik in 2016, the Marc Doffey Jazz Orchestra celebrated its premiere in January 2019.
