Prof. Scot Weir Vocal studies


The American tenor Scot Weir studied voice at the University of Colorado, where he graduated with honors in 1980. He began his career with engagements at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen and the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden.

As an opera singer, he has performed at the Salzburg Festival, the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin, the Hamburg State Opera, the Théâtre du Châtelet and Opéra Bastille in Paris, and regularly at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, among others.

As a concert singer, particularly as the Evangelist in J.S. Bach's Passions and in over 200 oratorios, he has worked with conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs, Helmuth Rilling, Charles Dutoit, and Claudio Abbado.

His singing is documented on recordings by labels such as Archiv Deutsche Grammaphon, Teldec/Warner Bros., Phillips, Channel Classics, Hännsler Verlag, TACET, and Dreyer/Gaido.
