Prof. Dirk Peppel Flute

Dirk Peppel was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1964 and began his musical education there in 1979 as a piano student at the Hochsch'en Conservatory. From 1984-1989, he studied flute in the class of Prof. Matthias Rütters at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. He also received important musical impulses in France and Switzerland from André Jaunet, Maxence Larrieux, and Jean-Pierre Rampal. From 1987-2014, he was the principal flutist of the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe. He was engaged as a guest by over 40 other symphony, opera, and radio orchestras. In addition to his commitments as an orchestra musician, Dirk Peppel develops a versatile concert activity as a chamber musician and soloist. He has been invited to major European festivals, and concert tours have also taken him to North and South America, Israel, China, and Japan. Numerous recordings for German, Spanish, and Latin American radio stations as well as CD productions attest to his wide-ranging repertoire.

A focus of his musical work is contemporary music: as a member of the Mutare Ensemble, he is a guest at the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, the studio concerts of NDR Hannover, and the lunch concerts of HR, among others. He regularly gives master classes for flute, chamber music, and contemporary music at institutions such as the Bundesakademie Rheinsberg, the European Music Academy Montepulciano, and the Wuppertal Music Summer. From 1990-2004, he taught at the Mainz University of Music, and from 1999-2004, he was also a guest professor at the Universidad de ciencias y artes in Mexico. In 2004, he was appointed as a professor of flute and chamber music at the University of Music and Dance Cologne. Since 2014, he has also been teaching at the University of Music and Theater Rostock. In March of this year, Dirk Peppel made his debut as a teacher and soloist in South Korea (Seoul) and China (Wuhan). Further invitations have already been received for 2018 and 2019, including the Flute Festival Dalian and again to Seoul.
