Prof. Elisabeth Werressinging


The soprano Elisabeth Werres has been professor for singing at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK) since 2003. She was born in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia and grew up bilingual in Chicago, USA. After high school, she began her singing studies at the age of 19 with Prof. Dietger Jacob at the State University of Music in Cologne.

After starting out at the Cologne Opera Studio, she moved to the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and, two years later, to the Dortmund Theater. In the first four years of her career, the young soprano appeared in 14 specialist roles such as Rosina, Adele, Constanze, Zdenka, Frau Fluth, Susanna, Eurydike (Offenbach), Musetta, Ännchen, Susanna, Adina, Nedda, Marie (Bartered Bride) , Margarethe (Faust) .......) in over 300 performances. During this time she also won the advancement awards of the BDI, the Wagner Verband and the advancement award of the Mozart Competition, Würzburg.
This was followed by television appearances, radio recordings and a move to the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover, to which she was firmly connected for a long time. Her concert repertoire ranges from Bach to Weill; In addition, there are countless songs and a CD recording of the comic opera “Neues vom Tage” by Paul Hindemith under the direction of Jan Latham-König.
Concerts and guest performances have taken her to theaters such as: Cologne Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Munich State Opera, Zurich Opera, Berlin Komische Oper, Leipzig Opera, Aalto Theater Essen, National Theater Mannheim, National Theater Weimar, Theater Erfurt, State Theater on Gärtnerplatz, Staatstheater Wiesbaden as well as to Austria, Luxembourg, Spain, Japan, France, Romania, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Switzerland and the USA.
During these years the voice developed from the lyric and coloratura subject to roles like: Elvira (Don Giovanni), Contessa (Figaro), Merry Widow, Freia (Rheingold), Arabella, Tatjana (Onegin) ... later : Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Turandot (Busoni), Tosca (Puccini), Elena (Vespri Siciliani), Marie (Wozzeck), Milada (Dalibor), Chrysothemis (Elektra) as well as again and again the roles of Rosalinde and that of the Field Marshaless, the became her favorite roles.

Her sung repertoire now includes over 55 specialist roles, not counting oratorio and lied. Prof. Werres also gives regular master classes at home and abroad.
