Michael Hasel

Prof. Michael Hasel flute

He already played piano, organ and harpsichord, but still wanted to learn a wind instrument. For discussion stood flute or horn. The grandmother, the "sponsor" of his musical activities, put a flute under the Christmas tree for her grandson - because she was more familiar with the flute sound. Michael Hasel became a pupil of Herbert Grimm and Willi Schmidt, later on - while studying at the Freiburg Academy of Music - by Aurèle Nicolet. There he continued his studies in conducting and piano playing. His first engagement led him in 1982 as a solo piccolist to the Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, two years later he became a member of the Berlin Philharmonic. In addition, Michael Hasel was a solo flutist for many years as an orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival.

In 1988, he and four colleagues founded the Philharmonic Wind Quintet, with which he has performed throughout the world and recorded numerous CDs.
In addition, Michael Hasel also works as a teacher and conductor: From 1994 to 1998 he worked as a professor for wind ensemble and chamber music at the Musikhochschule Mannheim. He also teaches at the orchestra academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker and at international masterclasses. As a conductor he has worked with renowned ensembles and orchestras, including the Ensemble Modern, the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, the Scharoun Ensemble, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Gustav Mahler Orchestra and the Orquesta Simón Bolívar in Europe, South America and Japan.
