Kumiko Okabo Bormann Gesang


Kumiko Okabo-Bormann was born and raised in Osaka, Japan. At the age of 14, she began to take singing lessons as part of the promotion of young musical talent. She studied singing with Makoto Kikawada at Soai University. After completing her vocal diploma, she completed her studies at the renowned Kansai Nikikai Opera Company. After graduation she became a member of the ensemble there. In 1983 she debuted as Dorabella in Mozart's Così fan tutte at the International Kirishima Music Festival under the direction of Hartmut Haenchen. In 1987/88 she studied as a scholarship holder at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin (now UdK) with Gerd Ulrich Bormann. In 1993 she received the Culture Award of her hometown Osaka in the category of music / opera singing. Their repertoire include the Dorabella and Fiordiligi in

Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (over 150 times), Missa Solemnis Beethoven's, Jahreszeiten (Haydn), Mesiah (Handel), Requiem (Mozart, Dovoràk, Faure, Verdi), Gloria Messe (Vivaldi), Cantata No.2. (Webern), Symphony No.4 (Mahler), etc. Several concertante and recitals.

Kumiko Okabo-Bormann taught at the University of Soai (Japan) and the UdK Berlin. She taught in over 10 years at the "Nichi-Doku-Liederkreis" on summer courses in Germany and Japan the subject "German-speaking piano song".
